Jugular foramen tumor in myotonic dystrophy: A case report

We report the clinical manifestations of a 33-year-old man with myotonic dystrophy (MD). Clinically he had slurred speech, tinnitus, and hearing impairment of the left ear. The brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) showed a jugular foramen tumor possibly schwannoma in addition to mild ventricular dilatation, cortical atrophy, and subcortical white matter lesions in bilateral frontal and temporal lobes. To our knowledge, a jugular foramen tumor associated with MD has not been reported. The association may be correlated. We concluded that lower cranial nerve tumors should be suggested in MD patients with symptoms similar to patients with brainstem disorders.
