摘要

Modern urban city planning requires high or ultra-high voltage power cables go through underground tunnels. The constraints of an underground tunnel in cooling the power cables have become an important problem. An underground power cable project in Kaohsiung Taiwan is taken as a case study. Thermal system analysis of a section of the power cable tunnel is presented in the study. Five problems are identified, namely, tunnel temperature field, selection of cooling water temperatures, tunnel surface temperature, distributed temperature sensing (DTS), and the critical temperatures of 345kV and 161kV power cables. Under normal operation the cooling water temperature is control according to the DTS readings. The sensing of critical power cable temperature is for the alarm purpose. The observation of tunnel surface temperature is for long term understanding of the thermal interaction in the tunnel. Fire alarm is activated when abnormal temperature is sensed in the tunnel. Thermal analysis and computer fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling is used to analyze the temperature characteristics for the above case of underground power cable tunnel.
