Utilizing a light image array with varying light intensities in optically-induced dielectrophoresis (odep)-based microfluidic system for a culture-free screen of bacteria with different responses to antibiotics treatment

摘要

Antibiotics resistance is regarded as a potential threat of bacterial infection, making certain bacteria survive and grow during therapy and thus resulting in therapeutic failure. To achieve a rapid screen of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it is urgent to develop a bacteria culture-independent screening method. Integrating with properties of optically-induced dielectrophoresis (ODEP) in cell manipulation, this paper presented a culture-free screening method for bacteria with different responses to antibiotics treatment by using a light image array with varying light intensities. The results of microbial viability assay and ODEP-based bacteria manipulation have validated the concept proposed in this study.
